Newborn Care

South Dayton Pediatrics provides care for your newborn from his or her earliest developmental stages onward through each milestone.

South Dayton Pediatrics provides quality newborn care. Our staff will monitor your child and track progress through each stage of development. We can also provide your child's first immunizations against diseases such as polio, hepatitis, diphtheria, and whooping cough.

See recommended vaccine schedule.

The American Pediatric Association recommends children have developmental assessments at 9, 18, and 30 months of age. We use a variety of assessment tools to determine your child's progress. Should we ever note a delay, we can bring it to your attention and address it early.

South Dayton Pediatrics is committed to being with you each step of the way as your child develops. We are here to answer questions about health concerns, breastfeeding, sleep schedules, and so much more.

In-House Lactation Consulting

The first few weeks of caring for a newborn can seem overwhelming. This can be especially true if attempts at breastfeeding are not going as planned. While breastfeeding is a natural process, some moms face unexpected challenges. That's why South Dayton Pediatrics is proud to offer in-house lactation consulting. We can address challenges such as low milk supply, strong let-down, painful latching, engorgement, and maternal exhaustion in a caring, non-judgmental environment. Studies indicate that when new moms have a trained lactation consultant to turn to, they are more likely to be successful in their breastfeeding efforts.

Weight Management

Newborns typically lose a small amount of weight in the first few days after birth as their bodies get rid of extra fluid they held in utero. While this is normal, it can be unsettling for some new parents. All of the staff at South Dayton Pediatrics are knowledgeable in guiding parents through the various stages of healthy weight management for children — from newborns to toddlers and beyond. If you have any concerns about your child's weight, reach out and let us know.

Please note: Our practice requires newborns to receive the Vitamin K vaccine at birth in order for us to assume care upon discharge.
